The National Center on Senior Transportation (NCST) is hosting a Falls Prevention and Transportation Webinar this Wednesday, May 6th, 1:00-2:30pm EDT. Please see the information below for details and registration.
Join NCST staff and a panel of experts (an occupational therapist, falls prevention expert, and local transportation providers) on May 6, 2015, for an interactive discussion on the importance of falls prevention awareness in transportation. Falling can be a very serious threat to older adults using public transportation. Unintentional falls are reported to be the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries among adults age 65 and older, and each year 37,000 older adults sustain injuries that require medical attention due to getting into and out of a vehicle. This discussion will highlight both the risks of falling on public transportation vehicles and strategies for ensuring that older passengers can use public transportation independently, safely, and without fear.
